Description
While the Bleeker's Hawkfish Cirrhitichthys bleekeri may not be as rare as its cousin the Golden Hawkfish, it is still an uncommon Hawkfish. Presenting in a mottled brown and orange color, it only grows to a little over 3” in length. This Hawkfish is collected in the eastern region of the Indian Ocean where it can be found perched on rocky coral reefs, where it is on the lookout for prey. The Bleeker’s Hawkfish is an aquatic species that can withstand stronger water currents because it has the ability to use its fins to anchor itself onto rock.
A 30 gallon or larger aquarium with plenty of hiding places is acceptable for this semi-aggressive marine fish. Although it may eat small fish and shrimp, it can become part of your reef aquarium under watchful conditions.
A carnivorous member of the Cirrhitidae family, the diet of the Bleeker’s Hawkfish should include a variety of crustacean or marine meats, Mysis and brine shrimp, and krill.
